about

This record is a portrait of a convergence: four curious minds and four circuitous journeys.

As long time friends and members of a large and loose musical community, any two of our paths might temporarily align somewhere -on a festival stage in California, on a recording session in Nashville, in a New York City nightclub- at any point in the last 15 years or so. But never exactly in this formation, until recently.

With at least 2,000 miles of distance between our respective homes, it’s only logical that we’d discover this quartet’s particular chemistry in England, onstage at Sore Fingers in the Cotswold mountains in spring of 2019. A single gig together revealed an easy rapport.

The next time we met was in Boston the following August to record “Bluegrass and the Abstract Truth,” a collection of original instrumental pieces and favorites from the canon.

Walsh are restless creatives who together display a breadth of expression, pivoting from poignancy to irreverence without breaking stride. ... more
